October sees the opening of a new exhibition at 
Buckingham Palace,  marking the 100th anniversary of Captain Scott’s ill-fated journey to  the South Pole.

The exhibition features the remarkable photographs taken in Antarctica by 
Herbert George Ponting to record Scott’s 
Terra Nova expedition of 1910-13, a journey from which he and four members of his team never returned.

Also on display are photographs by Frank Hurley, who accompanied  Ernest Shackleton on his polar expedition between 1914–16, which  included a heroic sea journey from Elephant Island to South Georgia.
